Having visited Denmark and Sweden, there’s no denying that they have the minimalistic aesthetic down pat. Even when they’re not trying, everything is just so stylish!

Colours: white, black, greys, splashes of colour if so desired

Left | SAVE: Ikea’s Sniglar crib. An extremely cost-effective choice, with lots of hacks that can be found online if you want to turn it into something a little bit fancier.

Right | SPLURGE: Babyletto’s Gelato crib. A 4-in-1 convertible crib made with sustainable New Zealand pine wood and lead and phthalate free non-toxic finishes.

Bedding

Left | SAVE: Lolli Living’s fitted crib sheets. They have adorable collections of full bedding sets, but I particularly like this cute arrow patterned fitted sheet.

Right | SPLURGE: Ollie + Lime fitted crib sheets. Ollie + Lime is a monochromatic palette lover’s dream. Their site is American, but several Canadian boutique carry select products from their line.

Seating

Left | SAVE: Structube’s Diamond Chair. This striking chair, “inspired” by Knoll’s Bertoia diamond chair, will steal the show in the nursery (after the baby, of course).

Right | SPLURGE: Eames Molded Plastic Rocker. A minimalist’s room is not complete without a white and beech rocker designed by Charles and Ray Eames. There are knock-offs out there, but this is the real deal from Herman Miller.

Storage

Left | SAVE: Tellkiddo’s Bear Paper Bag. These super cute paper storage bags are making their rounds on Instagram. Designed by a mom from Stockholm, Sweden, they can be purchased through her Etsy store or select Canadian boutiques.

Right | SPLURGE: Ikea’s Stuva storage bench. Yet another gem by Ikea that has tonnes of hacks available online. Many DIYers have made beautiful storage and play units out of the Stuva series.

Wall Décor

Left | SAVE: Restoration Hardware’s Petite Papier-mâché Animal Heads. These eco-friendly sculptures are made of recycled materials. Choose from a giraffe, sable, stag antelope and elephant.

Right | SPLURGE: Bare Bear Moose’s plywood deer head. This awesome laser cut plywood deer head can be an afternoon project that you assemble and paint (or leave raw), created by a family out in Peterborough, Ontario.

Art Prints

Left | SAVE: MiniLearners’ printables. Designed by a mom in Lithuania, the Etsy shop carries affordable and downloadable versions of her prints. Printed versions are available through the main website, too.

Right | SPLURGE: Ikea’s Olunda framed print. Five prints of Picasso’s one-liners that are mounted and framed in a lovely minimalistic frame. I have this one in my office!
